Hugo Latapie is a Principal Engineer at Cisco Research with over 30 years of experience in implementing mission-critical systems across the defense, medical, and telecommunications industries. He has held key positions at Ormond Aerospace, General Dynamics, Raytheon/Hughes, and NDS/News Corp, where he served as Vice President of Engineering and CTO.

Throughout his career, Hugo has focused on reliable, repeatable innovation and a hands-on "surgical team" methodology for rapidly implementing high-value products with leading-edge technologies. His expertise spans large-scale distributed systems, cryptography, embedded systems, database engine development, compiler design, digital television, machine learning, deep learning, symbolic AI, and neurosymbolic systems.

Hugo's work has significantly impacted various fields. His network database work formed the basis for the first semantic network-based applications in healthcare, while his adaptive dynamic electronic countermeasure system advanced the cat-and-mouse game in DIRECTV signal piracy. He has been a keynote speaker at the AGI 2019 conference and the International Workshop on Self-Supervised Learning (IWSSL) 2022 for his work on commercial neurosymbolic systems. With over 70 issued and pending patents, Hugo's dedication to pushing the boundaries of innovation continues to drive his work at Cisco Research, where he focuses on developing cutting-edge solutions to complex problems.
